Map: Zone H : Mt. Barker, Lk Muir

This zone is of interest because the southern boundary of “The Southwest Seimic Zone” must be in it, but cannot be well-defined. It probably lies at about 34.5 south. Events do occur south of 3.5 degrees, but they are rare and and do not seem to be “clustered” like many events of the SWSZ are.

The map above shows earthquakes of ML 3.0 and above since Jan, 2000. The principle seismicity on this map belongs to the Lake Muir sequence of late 2018. A magnitude (ML) 5.7 event occurred on 16 Nov 2018, with many events following it, including an ML 5.4 event on 08 Nov. 2018.

Apart from the 2018 Lk Muir events, the only other Mag 4 event in the region was an ML 4.1 event NW of Rocky Gully on 8 April, 2009.

A magnitude 3.8 event north of Denmark on 01 Aug 2019 has a number of smaller aftershocks.
