Vanuatu 17 Dec 2024 A magnitude 7.2 earthquake on 17 Dec 2024 caused major damage in the capital of Vanuatu, Port Vila - about 2000 km NE of Brisbane. At least 14 people have been killed. Many aftershocks have occurred.
Papua New Guinea March 2024 A magnitude 5.4 earthquake occurred in the East Sepik Province of PNG, causing the deaths of 5 people

Japan 01 Jan 2024 A magnitude 7.5 event occurred in the north of the Noto Peninsula, in central Japan. The earthquake caused major damage and an ~ 5 m high tsunami. About 420 people were killed, many by the ~5 m tsunami associated wit the event
Morocco 8 Sept. 2023 A magnitude 6.8 earthquake in the Atlas mountains, southwest of Marrakech, causing ~3,000 deaths
Turkey Feb. 2023 A large (magnitude (Mw 7.8) earthquake occurred in southern Turkey on 6th February, 2023, at 0417 hours (local time). The estimated death toll from this event is 60,000. More than 11,000 aftershocks occurred in the following weeks. These events occurred on the East Anatolian fault, which in general has a lower degree of seismicity than the North Anatolian fault.
Canterbury, NZ 2010, 2011 A large (magnitude 7.1) earthquake occurred in the Canterbury region of NZ on 4th Sept. 2010, It has been named the Darfield earthquake. This earthquake caused one death. The earthquake had many aftershocks, the largest of which was on 22nd Feb 2011 (magnitude 6.3). This earthquake was closer to the the city of Christchurch, and resulted in the deaths of ~180 people, and damage to the city estimated at about $400 million. Two smaller aftershocks (magnitudes 5.6, 6.3 ) on 13th June 2011 also caused considerable damage.
